Stuck Creatively? Maybe You’re Holding Your Breath (Literally)

conor032

Ever feel like your creativity has packed its bags and taken a long holiday without you? Turns out, it might be because you’re holding your breath—literally.

When we’re stressed, we tend to breathe shallowly or even stop breathing altogether. It’s like our body hits pause while waiting for some imaginary creative lightning bolt to strike.

Breathwork, or conscious connected breathing, is a tool you can use to unlock that stuck creative energy. Instead of staring at a blank page (or canvas) in frustration, try this quick exercise:

  1. Sit comfortably and take a deep breath in through your nose.

  2. Exhale fully through your mouth, letting go of any tension.

  3. Continue this for a minute, focusing on making your exhale longer than your inhale.

This kind of mindful breathing calms your nervous system and invites inspiration back in. It’s like telling your brain, “Hey, we’re safe, you can start being brilliant again.”

Remember, creativity doesn’t thrive on pressure. It thrives on flow—and breathwork can help you find it.
